    • Golfers are strongly encouraged to walk the course and use caddies whenever caddies are available.
  • Pace of Play
    •  Play Without Delay

Our golf committee has recently adopted a new pace of play initiative where we ask that our membership play in the following maximum completion time for 18 holes of golf for a foursome:

Non-Tournament Play        Not to exceed 4 hours and 9 minutes
Tournament Play                 Not to exceed 4 hours and 24 minutes

This is also standard policy for guest play as well.

The Professional golf staff will start all play during our peak periods (Friday 11am-2pm and Saturday Mornings), regulating 10 minute intervals to ensure adequate spacing between groups.  This usually means that the group in front is already on the green.  We will also monitor and record times of all groups on the golf course to help us identify possible slow players.  Should a group be out of position, our staff will stay with that group, assisting with forecaddie duties such as finding balls and raking bunkers until the group has regained its position on the golf course.

There are many ways to speed up play.  We are emphasising the following in 2011.  Just remember,
if every player took 30 seconds less to play each hole the foursome would take 36 minutes less to play an entire round!

      1.  Play the appropriate set of tees for your skill level and handicap

      2.  Take a caddie - an extra set of eyes for a lost ball and expediting yardage is helpful.  An additional green reader is also good.

      3.  Lost ball - 2 minute rule for searching for a lost ball for non-tournament play.  This speeds up play tremendously and normally after 2 minutes the ball is most likely lost.  Additionally, if you think your ball might be lost be sure to play a provisional ball.

      4.  As soon as everyone has holed out, clear the putting green and go to the next tee before marking down your scores.

      5.  Decide what club to use while others are hitting.  If in doubt, take a few clubs to your ball.

      6.  When driving a cart, leave your passenger off at their golf ball with their needed clubs and go to your ball to be ready to play your shot.

      7.  Pay more attention to the group in front, not the group behind you.  If you are not being pushed by the group behind you, this could mean that they are slow, not necessarily that your group is playing at an acceptable pace.

      8.  If your group is not keeping up with the group in front of you, play "ready golf" - which means if you get to the tee first, go ahead and hit.  This can also apply to other shots played to the green as long as the safety and well-being of players is not put in jeopardy.  Communicate this to your foursome and guests at the 1st tee stating "if we get behind, be prepared to play ready golf."

We are looking forward to providing a more pleasant golf experience for all members and guests at Waynesborough.  We appreciate your cooperation in advance with our new pace of play initiative and hope to see you soon at the club!
